New Never-before done Platformer Idea: Need opinions!

Posted by ScottProductions2002 - March 26th, 2010

I've been thinking of a platformer that is "more than meets the eye."

Here is a slight demo of what I'm talking about. WSAD to move, click the mouse to do what makes the game unique.

Try getting to the end of the short demo by shifting perspectives.

Ideas, comments?

Just what groundpwndr said, when you shift it's really hard to guess where are you going to land, maybe make a lil mini-map showing where will you land, you can make it an ability or item if you think the guessing is the interesting part, but seriously good idea, hope to see it soon

Saw blades and swinging hammers would be epic in this game. Also, Maybe you can add a third dimension by having another view being top-down, but that might defeat the purpose of the other two views.

that type of 3d would be very hard to code :| (swinging obstacles). Maybe not for the first game

Seen that, done that.

link?

Possibly give weapons or items that work in both dimensions at once.

Don't know what you would use it for, just throwing an idea out there

Very fresh idea, though it still needs quite a few bug/glitch fixes to run smoothly. If you give it a good title, better character gfx and a solid story this would be a definite win ;)
Might i suggest mapping the 'shift dimension' button to a keyboard one rather than the mouse? You could open new doors like shooting or selecting items on screen.
Apart from that, cant wait to see this beast finished ;p

*Ahem* Super Paper Mario.

never played it, but I guess with the sheer amount of games made someone had to make the idea.

well, first flash game to do this -_-

I think it's a great concept, maybe come up with a way that you can spin around the entire 360 access? Make left click go in one direction, right click the other?

axis I meant ;)

This morning the idea would have seemed new to me, but a few hours ago I saw this:

What are the chances.

I definitely wouldn't say never before done. That doesn't matter though. Game mechanics don't have to be unique to make a unique game.

Huh, very interesting concept. Like stated, make it less easy to become disoriented or lost, and I think you'll have a very cool game on your hands!
